What AI does in Breadsheet

Breadsheet uses AI for three tasks. Each one runs only when you use it, sends only what the request needs, and produces a draft you confirm before it saves.

Voice logging

Say what you spent. AI extracts the amount, category, and date from your words and drafts a transaction for your review.

Receipt scanning

Photograph a receipt. AI pulls out the merchant, total, date, and line items so you can review and save in seconds.

Spending assistant

Ask questions in plain language. The assistant reads only the recent context it needs to answer - your full history stays on your device.

Ask your budget a question.

The assistant answers from your own spending data - not a generic response, but a reply grounded in what you have actually logged. Ask about a budget category, a time period, or a specific transaction type.

  • How much did I spend on groceries this month?
  • What subscriptions did I pay for recently?
  • Did I stay under my dining budget?
Did I stay under my dining budget this month?
You have spent $346.60 on Dining Out this month, $103.40 under your $450 budget.

AI that only acts when you ask.

Breadsheet is local-first. Your data lives on your device, not on our servers. AI features send data only for the specific request you are making - a voice note, a receipt photo, or an assistant question with a small amount of recent context. Nothing is sent in the background.

Questions about Breadsheet as an AI budget app

What makes Breadsheet an AI budget app?+

Breadsheet uses AI to let you log expenses by voice, scan receipts and extract transaction details, and ask a natural-language assistant questions about your spending. All three features run on demand, not in the background.

Does the AI budget assistant have access to my full transaction history?+

No. When you ask the assistant a question, it receives your question and a small window of recent spending context - enough to give a useful answer. Your full history is never sent.

Do I need a bank connection for the AI features to work?+

No. Breadsheet never connects to a bank. You add expenses yourself by voice, receipt, or typing, and the AI works from what you have logged.

Is Breadsheet the only AI budget app that is local-first?+

Local-first means your data lives on your device by default, not on a server. Breadsheet is designed around that model. AI features send data only for the request you are making, and nothing is stored server-side after the request completes.
